The Kwara State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, has unveiled the newly renovated and fully equipped General Hospital Afon in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The ceremony, held on Monday, marked a significant milestone in the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

The event was attended by key government officials, including Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, the newly appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Health in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

This unveiling was his first official engagement in his new role, following the recent reconstitution of the Assembly’s standing committees.

Speaking at the event, Ogbeni Ogunniyi lauded Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration for prioritizing the health sector and implementing impactful policies to enhance the well-being of Kwarans.

He particularly commended Dr. Amina El-Imam, the Commissioner for Health, for her dynamic leadership in overseeing the project’s successful completion.

“This investment in the General Hospital Afon is a step in the right direction. It will provide critical healthcare services to the people of Afon and surrounding rural communities,” Ogunniyi stated. He further urged hospital staff to embrace a culture of responsibility and maintenance while encouraging residents to seek medical care at approved facilities rather than patronizing unlicensed practitioners.

The unveiling ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including: Hon. Yunus Oniboki (Afon Constituency), Hon. Rukayat Shittu (Owode/Onire Constituency), Dr. Amina El-Imam (Commissioner for Health), Alhaji Yahaya Shehu (Executive Chairman, Asa Local Government) Dr. Malik Abdulraheem (Executive Secretary, Hospital Management Board), Alhaji Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa (Chairman, Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority), Permanent Secretary and Directors from the Ministry of Health, Asa Local Government Legislative Council members, Representatives of the traditional institution, community leaders, and party stakeholders

The renovation and upgrade of General Hospital Afon align with the broader healthcare reform agenda of Governor AbdulRazaq, aimed at improving medical infrastructure and accessibility in Kwara State.

Residents expressed appreciation for the project, describing it as a much-needed intervention that will significantly enhance healthcare services in the region.
