The Niger State government has designated the last Saturday of each month as Environmental Sanitation Day.
This was announced in a statement issued in Minna by Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago. According to Ibrahim, the governor has approved the Niger State Environmental Sanitation and Wastes Control Regulations 2025, which will govern sanitation and waste management across the state without overriding existing laws.
Under these regulations, individuals and vehicles—whether in motion or stationary—are responsible for maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.
“In line with this, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has declared the last Saturday of every month as Environmental Sanitation Day, exercising the authority granted by Section 5 (1) (2) of the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency Law, 2022 (as amended),” Ibrahim stated.
As part of the enforcement measures, movement restrictions will be in place from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM on each Environmental Sanitation Day, limiting the movement of people and vehicles during this period.
