A powerful rainstorm swept through Ekiti State, causing widespread destruction to homes and infrastructure across four local government areas.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the storm struck between March 5 and March 6, affecting Moba, Ijero, Ado, and Ekiti East LGAs.
In response, officials from the Ekiti Operations Office of NEMA, in collaboration with the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), visited the affected communities to assess the damage. The NEMA team was led by ACSARO Abogunrin Adesina, while Alhaji Ademola Bello headed the Ekiti SEMA delegation. Also present were Red Cross officials and representatives of the affected communities.
The assessment revealed significant destruction:
Ijero LGA: 136 buildings were partially damaged, while 64 rooftops were completely blown off, affecting 497 households.
Moba LGA: 41 rooftops were partially destroyed, and 16 were completely destroyed, impacting 157 households.
Ekiti East LGA: 69 buildings suffered partial damage, while 24 rooftops were completely destroyed, affecting 263 households.
Ado LGA: 87 houses were partially damaged, and 59 lost their rooftops entirely.
In total, 496 buildings and 1,227 households were affected by the storm. Several public infrastructures, including electric poles, schools, and places of worship, were also severely damaged.
Despite the extensive destruction, NEMA confirmed that no casualties were recorded.
