Mojisola Meranda has stepped down as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly amid the ongoing leadership crisis.
Despite her resignation, the crisis remains unresolved, with divisions deepening over Speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s removal, splitting both the Assembly and the ruling party’s leadership in the state.
Meranda stated that she resigned to protect the integrity of the Assembly but emphasized that she is not a quitter.
Before her announcement, lawmakers took turns to commend her legislative acumen, diligence, and contributions during her short tenure.
Desmond Olusola Elliot praised her leadership, while Temitope Adewale Ifako-Ijaiye I described her as a “heroine of democracy,” adding, “You came, you saw, you conquered. You are a victim of circumstance. This house is in tears.”
