Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has fully covered the ₦54 million bride price for 300 couples as part of a mass wedding initiative organized by NANAS Foundation, a pet project of his wife, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris.
Beyond settling the bride price, the foundation also provided beds, duvets, furniture, food items, and starter packs to help the newlyweds establish their homes.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace in Birnin Kebbi, drawing prominent dignitaries. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represented the grooms as Wakili, while the Emir of Gwandu, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashar (rtd.), stood in for the brides as Waliyi.
Islamic clerics, including Sheik Muktar Abdullahi (Walin Gwandu), Malam Ahmad S. Pawa (Imam of Jakolo Mosque), and Malam Muhammad (Imam of Wala Mosque), officiated the marriages after confirming the payment of ₦180,000 as the bride price for each couple.
During the ceremony, the clerics reminded the grooms of their marital responsibilities as outlined in the Holy Qur’an. Governor Idris also addressed the newlyweds, urging them to value their unions and maintain good conduct.
