Vice President Kashim Shettima has been appointed to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 Hajj, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Saleh, announced yesterday during a live program.

Saleh stated that Shettima, as a practicing Muslim, would personally perform the religious obligation and oversee the pilgrimage process. His direct involvement aims to ensure proper supervision of the spiritual exercise and minimize reliance on third-party reports.

The NAHCON boss emphasized that this approach would help curb misinformation. Speaking on preparations, he confirmed that arrangements for over 70,000 pilgrims, out of the 95,000 allocated slots, had already been finalized.

He also noted that proactive measures had helped contain the annual surge in pilgrimage costs, with further reliefs expected for this year’s intending pilgrims.

Additionally, Saleh disclosed that Saudi authorities have introduced new dual health measures under the Health Service Providers system, which all participating countries must comply with.

He urged state pilgrims’ welfare boards, agencies, and commissions to strictly adhere to these health guidelines.
