Wike
A coalition known as PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress has called on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to persuade President Bola Tinubu to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that this would reaffirm Wike’s loyalty to the party.
The group made this statement in Umuahia on Tuesday in response to comments made by Wike, who reportedly criticized the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, for praising the accomplishments of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.
Emeka Ikpegbu, the National Coordinator of the group, asserted that Wabara did not err in attempting to attract Governor Otti to the PDP. He challenged Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, to also work on bringing President Bola Tinubu into the party, thereby demonstrating his commitment to the PDP.
“Wike should first focus on convincing his principal, President Bola Tinubu—whom he praises regularly—to join the PDP before lecturing us on anti-party activities,” Ikpegbu stated.
He questioned, “Is there a more significant anti-party action than a former Governor and a presidential aspirant in the PDP serving as a Minister under the APC? Wike has publicly lauded President Tinubu on numerous occasions without any consequences for anti-party behavior. So why is he now trying to instruct us on sanctioning members for such actions?”
The group also advised Wike to refrain from criticizing Wabara and the PDP governors, commending them for their steadfastness during the political turmoil in Rivers State. They also supported the affirmation of Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary based on the ruling from the Enugu Court of Appeal.
Looking ahead, the group expressed optimism for the PDP’s future in 2027, calling on party members to stand firm against any attempts to intimidate those working to revitalize and reposition the party.
