The Abia State Police Command has revealed that it has not received any reports from residents of Oriendu Autonomous Community concerning the alleged discovery of floating corpses in the local river, as of Monday.
This information was shared by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka.
According to prior reports, Eze Philip Ajomiwe, the traditional ruler of Oriendu Autonomous Community in Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA, stated that approximately thirty unidentified corpses had been found floating in the Imo River, which borders the community and Imo State, between 2024 and 2025.
The monarch expressed concerns over the chilling discovery, stating it has instilled fear within the community. He urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action to identify and apprehend those responsible for the deaths.
However, DSP Maureen Chinaka clarified in a conversation with NEWS BULLETIN that the police had yet to hear from any individuals in Oriendu about the reported corpses, as of February 24.
“As of now, there has been no official report,” she stated.
The PPRO highlighted that such incidents should have been formally reported to the police, adding that there have been no reports of missing or deceased persons from Oriendu found in the river, which lies along the boundary with a neighboring community in another state.
