Tragedy struck in Kashimbila, located in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, where four individuals have lost their lives and two others are undergoing treatment after consuming a toxic fish.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama shared the news on his X account on Tuesday, citing intelligence sources. The incident reportedly took place on February 22 when six Fulani herders—Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa, and Ibrahim Haruna—went fishing at a nearby river.
According to Makama, after catching and preparing their catch, they inadvertently consumed a poisonous species of fish, resulting in severe health complications.
“They were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kashimbila, where the doctor confirmed the deaths of Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo,” he reported.
The two survivors, Yusuf Musa and Ibrahim Haruna, remain hospitalized and are receiving medical care.
Makama noted that the incident was reported to the police by Haruna Isiaka of Chidawa Village. The police have since placed the deceased in the hospital mortuary for autopsy, with investigations into the matter currently underway.
