National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has clarified that he has never engaged in discussions regarding a potential run for the presidency in 2031, countering claims made by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
In an interview on Arise Television, which was monitored by *News Bulletin*, El-Rufai alleged that Ribadu’s ambition to succeed President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming electoral cycle has created tensions with northern politicians who may oppose him.
El-Rufai, a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accused Ribadu of resorting to name-calling and character attacks after collaborating with Governor Uba Sani and officials from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) to implicate him in a corruption case involving over N423 billion.
He described the investigation as a politically motivated assault against himself and his administration, labeling Ribadu and Sani as allies who have turned against him due to personal conflicts.
In response to these accusations, Ribadu took to his X account, asserting that he would not retaliate with insults, but felt compelled to address the situation to prevent El-Rufai’s comments from being misinterpreted as acceptable.
Ribadu expressed his frustration with El-Rufai’s public remarks, emphasizing that he has never spoken negatively about the former governor. He characterized El-Rufai’s statements as a departure from their previously progressive relationship and his commitment to the APC, a party he has worked hard to support.
He urged the public to disregard El-Rufai’s allegations, reaffirming that his exclusive focus is on promoting Nigeria’s advancement and supporting President Tinubu’s administration. Ribadu also called on El-Rufai to stop any further conflict and allow him to concentrate on his national responsibilities.
“To clarify, I want to make it clear that I have never discussed a presidential run in 2031 with anyone. My complete focus and energy are dedicated to the progress of Nigeria and the success of President Tinubu’s government,” Ribadu stated on X.
