The Lagos police have apprehended 23-year-old Gbolahan Adebayo for allegedly beating his 25-year-old girlfriend (name withheld) to death at his residence in Ijedodo, Alimosho area.
A neighbor informed the Isheri Osun Police Division on February 23 that he witnessed Adebayo assaulting his girlfriend on the evening of February 21 at around 8:00 p.m. The neighbor reported that Adebayo later yelled for help, prompting him to rush to the apartment, where he found the victim unconscious on the bed with visible injuries.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was transported to a hospital in Ijegun, where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival. Hundeyin noted that detectives had visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital. The victim’s body was examined, photographed, and subsequently taken to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) morgue in Yaba for an autopsy.
“The suspect has been arrested, and an investigation is underway,” Hundeyin stated.
In a separate case, police thwarted an armed robbery, apprehended a suspect, and recovered a stolen vehicle in Sango, Otta, Ogun State. An Uber driver reported to the Isokoko Police Division on February 22 at approximately 9:23 p.m. that a passenger named Kelvin Musa had boarded his Toyota Camry for a trip to Marriott Hotel in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Ikeja. Upon reaching Ile-Zik, the passenger brandished a knife, attacked the driver multiple times, and stole the car.
Police tracked the stolen vehicle to Oshodi, where they intercepted and arrested the suspect. The car was recovered and brought back to the station, while the injured driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.
In another incident on February 23 around 5:00 p.m., a man named Mohammed reported to the Trinity Police Division that a 40-year-old scrap dealer had purchased a used fire extinguisher. While trying to dismantle it around 4:30 p.m., the extinguisher exploded, injuring the scrap dealer and two others, aged 50 and 45. The victims were promptly taken to Ajegunle General Hospital for treatment.
Detectives have visited both the scene of the explosion and the hospital where the victims are receiving care. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
