The Adamawa State government, in collaboration with the state command of the Nigeria Police, has initiated an investigation into the alleged torture of a secondary school student.

The victim, Jaafar Bashiru, a pupil at Aliyu Mustafa Academy in Jimeta, reportedly sustained injuries purportedly inflicted by one of his teachers for eating mango on the school premises.

Bashiru Haman, the boy’s father, revealed to reporters on Saturday that during a visit to the school to verify his son’s online fee payment, he unexpectedly witnessed his son being flogged.

The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the initiation of an investigation into the alleged abuse. Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris expressed strong disapproval of the incident and has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to oversee the case.

Assuring the public, the police commissioner called for calm and vowed that the investigation would be thorough, ensuring that justice is served.

On the part of the state government, Hajiya Aisha Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, confirmed that the ministry has received a complaint letter from the student’s parents and pledged that the matter would be pursued to its logical conclusion.
