A tragic shooting incident occurred at UPMC Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania on Saturday when a gunman, identified as Diogenes Archangel Ortiz, entered the hospital’s intensive care unit and began firing at unarmed individuals.
During this attack, Ortiz fatally shot a police officer and injured several others, including three hospital staff members—a doctor, a nurse, a custodian—and two additional officers.
York County District Attorney Tim Barker confirmed the details of the incident to CNN, explaining that Ortiz was holding an ICU employee hostage at gunpoint when law enforcement intervened, leading to a deadly shootout.
Susan Manko, a spokesperson for UPMC Memorial, assured CNN that no patients were harmed in the incident and that the hospital has since been secured.
