A tragic road accident on Sunday claimed the lives of eight people in Imo State following a collision between a Toyota Camry (registration number EPE 541 JO) and a Hyundai Santa Fe (registration number AAA 212 CD).
The accident occurred at Amala, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, killing all occupants of both vehicles.
NEWS BULLETIN reports that police officers from the Ngor-Okpala Divisional Headquarters arrived promptly at the scene.
According to the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, the victims’ remains were immediately transported to the mortuary, while the vehicles were cleared from the road to ease traffic congestion.
He added that an investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the accident and to identify the victims’ families.
“Pictorial evidence has been documented to support further inquiries into the cause of the crash,” he said.
Following the incident, Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, warned motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, noting that these remain leading causes of road accidents.
He urged all road users to drive responsibly, obey traffic rules, and exercise patience while on the road.
“Every driver has a duty to protect not only their life but also those of other road users by adhering to established road safety regulations,” the CP stated.
The police also appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the victims, urging anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station.
