As Nigeria joins the global community in celebrating World Radio Day, Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has lauded broadcast media organizations for their role in promoting public awareness, civic participation, and peaceful coexistence across the nation.
Governor Idris highlighted the crucial role of radio and television stations in bridging the communication gap between the government and the people, fostering peace and stability essential for democratic and socio-economic development.
In a goodwill message issued by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, the governor acknowledged the media’s contribution to governance by providing a platform for elected leaders to showcase their achievements while allowing the public to voice their opinions.
He stated, “Governor Idris commended the media industry for offering opportunities to democratically elected leaders to present their accomplishments and challenges while also giving the public a space to express their views on governance.
“While I strongly believe in freedom of speech, I emphasize the importance of adhering to the principle of fair hearing to prevent the spread of unsubstantiated allegations driven by political motives.”
Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency of state-owned media, citing the ongoing upgrade of Kebbi Radio and Television with state-of-the-art equipment.
Meanwhile, the governor congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kebbi State Chapter. He assured them and all working journalists in the state of his administration’s unwavering support in ensuring impactful journalism and adequate publicity for government policies and programs.
