Tinubu and El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has refuted claims that he supported President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 election bid for personal gain.

El-Rufai was among the Northern APC governors who advocated for a Southern candidate to succeed Muhammadu Buhari before the party’s primaries. Tinubu eventually secured the ticket and later won the election, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the LP.

However, tensions have since emerged between El-Rufai and the Tinubu administration, leading to frequent clashes on social media.

On Sunday, an X user, @realYusufTukur, accused Tinubu’s camp of seeking El-Rufai’s support before the election but later downplaying his role.

“When they were desperately seeking El-Rufai’s support, #officialABAT and his goons were everywhere singing Malam’s praises. Given their penchant for ingratitude, however, they’ve turned around to claim that Malam didn’t even support PBAT. But these testimonies say otherwise,” Tukur wrote.

In response, El-Rufai dismissed any notion of personal expectations, emphasizing that his actions were driven by duty rather than self-interest.

“We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is merely another life experience and part of human nature. We have moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well. Thanks anyway,” he posted.
