The Lagos State government has partnered with Circuits of Africa to develop a world-class Formula 1-standard race track, aiming to position Nigeria as a key player in global motorsports.
This ambitious project is expected to drive economic growth, enhance infrastructure, and elevate the country’s international profile.
The state-of-the-art facility will set new standards for motorsport infrastructure in Africa, offering cutting-edge racing conditions and fostering talent development on the continent.
During a high-level meeting in Lagos, key stakeholders, including Circuits of Africa CEO Siu-Anne Marie Gill and senior government officials, formalized plans for the project. Among the officials present were Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Sam Egube; Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide; Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Lekan Fatodu; and Lagos State Surveyor General, Ayokunnu Adesina.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Gill emphasized that the project goes beyond motorsport, stating, “This initiative is about economic growth, infrastructure expansion, and talent development in Africa. Lagos is the perfect location for this vision, and we are excited to collaborate with the government and international investors to bring it to life.” She also acknowledged Mr Seyi Tinubu for his guidance and Hon. James Faleke for his support.
Gill praised Lagos as a city of innovation and ambition, aligning with the state’s vision to become a global hub for sports and tourism. She expressed confidence that the project would create economic opportunities, attract investments, and establish a premier destination for motorsport enthusiasts.
Additionally, renowned music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, was unveiled as an ambassador for Circuits of Africa. The organization is dedicated to bringing world-class racing to the African continent, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of motorsports in the region.
