The US Postal Service (USPS) has temporarily suspended international parcel shipments from China and Hong Kong.
This follows President Donald Trump’s recent move to close a trade loophole that had allowed low-value packages to enter the US duty-free. Earlier this week, the Trump administration imposed an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods, which took effect on Tuesday. Additionally, the administration shut down the “de minimis” loophole, which permitted imports under $800 to bypass tariffs.
USPS clarified that the suspension does not affect letters or ‘flats’ from China and Hong Kong. However, the agency did not confirm whether the decision was directly linked to Trump’s policy changes regarding de minimis shipments.
Trump’s latest tariff hike came after repeated warnings to Beijing, urging stronger action against the flow of illicit drugs—particularly fentanyl—into the United States.
