A devastating auto accident in Ondo State has resulted in the deaths of 30 passengers.
The tragedy occurred on Saturday in the Odigbo Local Council Area when two commercial buses collided head-on, igniting a fierce fire at the Onipetesi section of the Ore/Lagos Expressway.
Out of the 32 passengers involved, 28 were burned beyond recognition, while two survivors, who sustained severe injuries, tragically succumbed before reaching the hospital. Additionally, two other passengers remain hospitalized for treatment.
Sources indicate that excessive speeding by the drivers contributed to the fatal crash. Samuel Ibitoye, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident and noted that a preliminary investigation revealed one of the vehicles was driving against oncoming traffic.
Ibitoye urged drivers to exercise caution, maintain their vehicles properly, and refrain from reckless driving. He also called on passengers to stand against unsafe driving practices, stressing that road safety is a collective responsibility.
