The Anambra State security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as Agunechemba, has demolished Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites, popularly referred to as “La Cruise Hotel,” located along the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
According to the security team, the hotel served as a hub for kidnappers and other criminal activities.
A statement shared by Anambra State New Media on X late Saturday night revealed the shocking discovery of over 30 partitioned graves on the top floor of the two-story building, along with a shrine.
Earlier, on January 20, SaharaReporters had reported that Agunechemba, a newly launched state security outfit, successfully uncovered notorious kidnappers’ hideouts in Isiagu, Awka South Local Government Area.
In a video clip shared on Sunday, the leader of the security team detailed the chilling findings: “They have a shrine, and live cartridges and ammunition were recovered when we removed the pot from the shrine. The pot, containing blood, is currently at the SARS Office in Awkuzu. Feathers and other ritual items were also found.”
He continued, “The top floor of the hotel was specifically built to house over 30 graves, along with the shrine where spiritual activities were conducted.”
When contacted, Mr. Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, confirmed the incident and explained the rationale behind the demolition.
“The hotel was demolished on Saturday by the State Security outfit Agunechemba after investigations revealed it was a kidnappers’ den. Numerous items were uncovered, including graves, army uniforms, live cartridges, and more. Residents of the community had long complained about hearing gunshots from the hotel at night but were too afraid to report it for fear of reprisal.”
Aburime noted that the recently enacted Homeland Security Law 2025 has bolstered the government’s efforts to tackle crime in the state, making it easier to identify and eliminate criminal elements.
“The government is making significant progress in ridding Anambra of criminals. This drastic action is already yielding results, and more buildings will be demolished if they are linked to kidnappers, robbers, or hired killers,” he stated.
“The government will also prosecute the property owners of such buildings,” he added.
The demolition has been widely praised by the local community, who expressed relief at the government’s decisive action to address the menace of insecurity in the area.
