The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence handed to Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a prominent hotel owner, in connection with the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
In its ruling on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the earlier judgment delivered by the Osun State High Court, which found Adedoyin guilty of the crime and sentenced him to death.
Delivering the verdict, the Court of Appeal noted: “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”
However, the appellate court overturned certain aspects of the lower court’s orders. It quashed the forfeiture of Hilton Hotel, where Adegoke was found dead in November 2021, and set aside the order mandating Adedoyin and others to provide education scholarships for the children of the deceased.
Adegoke was reported dead in November 2021 after lodging at Hilton Honours Hotel, owned by Adedoyin, in Ile-Ife.
