In a notable early move ahead of the 2027 elections, six politicians have publicly declared their intentions to contest for the Adamawa State governorship. The declarations were made during the inauguration of the Council of Elders by the Gongola People’s Forum (GPF) in Yola, Adamawa State.
The aspirants, including Senator Ishaku Abbo, Mr. Denis Habila Gapsiso, Dr. Ishaya Inuwa Durkwa, Mr. Yuguda Garba, Dr. Musa Maigana, and Mr. Kube Dwana, outlined their visions for addressing the state’s governance challenges.
Senator Ishaku Abbo, who represented Adamawa Central Zone in the Senate from 2019 to 2023 and is the most prominent of the group, emphasized his commitment to bridging gaps in the state’s governance.
In their individual addresses, the aspirants pledged to tackle the pressing issues facing the state and to bring meaningful development to the people of Adamawa.
The Gongola People’s Forum, formed last year to unify the minority ethnic groups of the former Gongola State, particularly the Adamawa region, has grown significantly in influence among its members.
It remains uncertain whether the GPF will endorse any of the aspirants or allow them to individually contest at the polls.
Meanwhile, other political figures within the GPF rumored to have governorship ambitions but absent from the meeting include Chief Maurice Vunobolki, Wafari Theman, Caleb Andrew Myebangara, and Alhaji Bello Ibrahim Hong.
