Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially presented the staff of office and certificate of appointment to the 46th Alaafin-elect, Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade, marking his formal ascension to the esteemed throne of the Alaafin of Oyo.
The ceremony took place on Monday, January 13, at the state government house in Agodi, Ibadan.
Dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and enthusiastic Oyo indigenes graced the event. While presenting the symbols of office, Governor Makinde described the new Alaafin as a leader dedicated to preserving the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Oyo Kingdom.
He noted that the Alaafin of Oyo is not merely a traditional ruler but also a custodian of history and tradition. The governor expressed confidence that Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade would lead with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to uniting the kingdom.
Prince Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, whose reign spanned five decades.
The new monarch expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo, pledging to prioritize the kingdom’s development and the welfare of its residents.
