Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed an immediate crackdown on the attackers of the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.
The police station was attacked on Thursday by Boko Haram terrorists, resulting in the deaths of Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, while another officer sustained critical injuries. The assault was repelled through a joint effort by the police and the Civilian Joint Task Force near the station.
Reacting to the incident on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the IGP condemned the attack and pledged that “cop-killers will not go unpunished.”
Egbetokun extended condolences to the families of the slain officers, emphasizing their sacrifices would not be forgotten. He also assured that the benefits and entitlements of the fallen officers would be promptly paid.
The IGP has tasked Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, with mobilizing resources and collaborating with other security agencies to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to holding accountable anyone who disrupts the security and safety of the country,” the statement concluded.
