Dear His Excellency, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,
Executive Governor of Kwara State,
Development is a continuous process that requires consistent planning and execution to meet the growing needs of the populace. Over the years, past administrations in Kwara State, particularly during the tenure of Dr. Bukola Saraki and his successor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, demonstrated a clear commitment to urban development by opening up new sites for housing and infrastructure.
Notable among these achievements were the establishment of Agric Estate, Mandate 2 and 3 Estates, Judges’ Quarters, Megida Estate, and several others.
These developments not only provided accommodation but also fostered economic activities and urban expansion in Ilorin and beyond.
However, in the last five years under your administration, it is concerning that there appears to be a lack of similar initiatives aimed at opening new estates or areas for development. The absence of such projects raises concerns about the long-term vision for urban planning and housing development in the state.
Urban development is crucial for addressing the growing population and housing challenges in Ilorin and other parts of Kwara State. It creates opportunities for investment, job creation, and improved living standards. By neglecting this critical area, the state risks stagnation and missed opportunities for economic growth.
This letter is not an indictment but a call to action. The achievements of previous administrations in opening new sites for development should inspire your government to prioritize urban expansion. I am eager to see initiatives that address housing deficits, create new economic hubs, and sustain Kwara’s reputation as a state of progress.
I respectfully urge you to consider the following recommendations:
1. Identify and Open New Development Areas: Allocate land and resources for new estates and government residential areas to cater to the growing population.
2. Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborate with private developers to accelerate housing projects and ensure affordability for all.
3. Sustainability: Ensure that new estates are equipped with essential amenities such as roads, water supply, electricity, and schools to foster a livable environment.
4. Transparency and Accountability: Regularly communicate progress on urban development projects to the public to maintain trust and confidence in governance.
The people of Kwara State deserve leadership that builds on past achievements while charting new paths for progress. I sincerely hope that your administration will rise to the occasion and leave a lasting legacy of development for generations to come.
