The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated he has no regrets for supporting President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State for eight years under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was appointed FCT Minister by President Tinubu under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service in Ochigba, organized by the PDP in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for trusting him with the ministerial role.
He revealed that he faced threats for backing Tinubu during the elections but maintained that he would make the same decision again if given another chance.
“I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing,” Wike affirmed.
Wike also addressed accusations of land grabbing in Abuja, describing them as baseless and laughable. He emphasized that his role as Minister gives him oversight of land administration in the FCT, making the claims unfounded.
“I am in charge of lands in Abuja; how will I go and grab what I am in charge of?” he questioned.
The Minister insisted on the need for due process, warning that individuals holding government land improperly risk having their allocations revoked.
He further commended President Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve, noting that managing the FCT presents greater challenges compared to Rivers State due to its national significance.
“No matter the propaganda or names you call me, the right thing must be done,” Wike concluded.
