A devastating road accident on the Bende-Ohafia Road has resulted in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to three others, as confirmed by the Abia Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
In a statement issued on Monday in Umuahia, Sector Commander Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma reported that the collision occurred on Sunday near the Mmuri River area in Ohafia Local Government Area.
The incident involved a trailer loaded with chippings that overturned onto a Volkswagen Sharon vehicle carrying ten passengers.
At the time of the accident, eight people had died, including a woman standing by the roadside, while three others were injured. The wounded victims were swiftly transported to the hospital, and the deceased were taken to the morgue.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by dangerous driving and excessive speed.
