A devastating accident occurred on Sunday in western Mexico when a small Cessna 207 aircraft crashed in a dense forest in Jalisco, resulting in the loss of at least seven lives.
Local authorities reported that the ill-fated plane had taken off from La Parota in the neighboring state of Michoacán before its catastrophic descent. The Jalisco Civil Protection agency announced via social media that the aircraft went down in an area that is challenging to access.
Initial responders at the scene provided a preliminary report indicating that seven individuals had perished in the crash, although their identities have not yet been confirmed.
In their statement, they noted, “This Sunday afternoon, a Cessna 207 small plane en route from La Parota, Michoacán, experienced an accident, crashing in a remote wooded area.” Emergency personnel from Jalisco Civil Protection, along with local authorities from Quitupan and Mazamitla, rushed to the site near the town of Palo Verde in Quitupan to respond to the emergency.
Initial police reports confirmed the deaths of seven people, although no further information about the victims has been released. Troops from SEDENA are also assisting in securing the crash site.
Efforts were made to extinguish any resulting fire and to mitigate risks to prevent further damage. Currently, authorities are awaiting forensic teams to facilitate the recovery of the bodies and to verify if there are any additional victims.
