Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently underwent emergency hip replacement surgery following an injury sustained during a visit to Luxembourg.
The procedure took place on Saturday after Pelosi, 84, was hospitalized due to the injury. A statement from her spokesperson, Ian Krager, confirmed: “Earlier this [Saturday] morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend.”
The statement also expressed Pelosi’s gratitude to the U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and the medical team at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their excellent care and support.
According to Krager, Pelosi was injured while visiting Luxembourg with a bipartisan congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of World War II’s Battle of the Bulge. U.S. media reports, citing anonymous sources, indicated that she had tripped on marble stairs and fallen, resulting in a hip fracture.
Pelosi, one of the most influential women in U.S. political history, served as the first and only female Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. She stepped down from the role in 2023 after completing her second term as Speaker but remains an elected representative from California with significant influence on Capitol Hill.
