Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed six new judges to the state’s high court.
This was announced on Thursday, December 12, by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, in an official statement.
The newly appointed judges are Mfon Winifred Umohandi, Bassey James Ekanem, Bassey Iwakaowo Essien, Comfort Henry Morrison, Edet Ekpo Ntekim, and Sharon Julius Eddie.
According to Uwah, the appointments were made following the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
“The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed judges, presided over by His Excellency the Governor, is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 4 p.m., at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo,” Uwah stated.
The NJC, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, had in November recommended the appointment of 36 judges across four states, including six for Akwa Ibom.
