The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is scheduled to kick off the construction of four new roads, along with Staff Quarters for the Nigerian Law School and other significant projects this week.
Lere Olayinka, the senior special assistant to the FCT minister on public communication and new media, announced in a statement on Monday, December 2, that a total of six new projects will be inaugurated over the course of this week and next week.
Apart from road construction, new vehicles will also be distributed to security agencies to bolster their operational capacity.
Details of the projects to be launched include the construction of the Kabulsa-Takushara Access Road, the Kabusa-Ketti Access Road, an access road to the new EFCC Academy site in Giri District, and the design, construction, and furnishing of an office complex for the Body of Benchers. Additionally, there will be design and construction of 10 Staff Quarters for the Nigerian Law School in the Bwari Area Council and the construction of a 15km road from A2 Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pia in the Kwali Area Council.
In recent weeks, the FCT Minister has conducted on-site assessments of more than 10 ongoing projects across Abuja and its satellite towns.
Among the projects he inspected were the Saburi-Dei Dei road construction, rehabilitation of the 5km Dutse-Usuma Dam road, and upgrades to the War College/Army Checkpoint and surrounding roads in the Bwari Area Council. Other inspected projects included the reconstruction of the 25km Kwaita/Yebu road in the Kwali Area Council, construction of the 11km Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo road, rehabilitation of the Old Ushafa-LUD Road, and the Dutse-Lower Usuma Dam Dual Carriageway being carried out by Abdul Val Limited. Moreover, he reviewed the construction of the 9km Paikon Kore/Ibwa Road, the 11km Aguma Palace – Radio Nigeria – New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council, and the Dakibiyu District Dual Carriage Road leading to the ongoing Abuja Court of Appeal Complex.
The minister also surveyed the ongoing 11km Kuje Road, the Full Scope Development of the 4km Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Road) from Life Camp to Ring Road III, and the construction of Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, which will feature two interchanges. Additionally, he inspected the construction of an 11.3km Access Road to the Judges Quarters in Katampe and the development of 40 Housing Units for Judges Quarters in Katampe District, along with internal roads within those quarters.
