The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the death of four of its personnel following an ambush by bandits in the Farin-Kasa area of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
In a statement on Friday, NSCDC spokesperson Babatunde Afolabi revealed that the deceased officers were among seven personnel declared missing after the attack, which occurred on November 18.
The ambush happened during a surveillance operation to monitor national grid installations in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Afolabi noted that the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, expressed his condolences to officers and personnel across the country, describing the incident as a tragic loss for the corps.
“As of today, out of the seven missing officers, four bodies have been recovered. Two personnel returned to base unharmed, while one officer remains missing,” Afolabi stated.
The Commandant General assured the affected personnel and their families that the Group Personal Accident/Group Life Insurance benefits would be facilitated to provide support in light of the tragedy.
During a visit to some injured officers at the corps’ medical facilities on Thursday, Audi commended the bravery of the personnel and urged them not to lose morale. He encouraged vigilance, adherence to safety protocols, and prayers for divine protection as the corps continues its fight against insecurity in the country.
Audi also appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies and provide the necessary support to enhance efforts to protect lives and property nationwide.
