Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged his administration’s continued support and collaboration with security agencies to maintain peace and safety in the state.
Makinde made this commitment on Thursday while hosting the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. During the visit, the governor donated two patrol vehicles to the NSCDC, praising the organization’s contributions to Oyo State’s security framework.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde highlighted the vital role the NSCDC plays in ensuring Oyo remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, despite the nation’s ongoing security challenges.
He noted the NSCDC’s efforts in safeguarding critical national economic assets, including oil infrastructure, which he described as essential to Nigeria’s economy.
“Let me extend a warm welcome to the Commandant-General of the Civil Defence Corps and his team to Oyo State. I also want to acknowledge the valuable contributions of the Oyo State Commandant, who is a respected member of the State Security Council. The Civil Defence Corps in Oyo State, as part of Operation Burst, has been instrumental in maintaining security, and their dedication is evident in the relative safety of our state,” Makinde said.
The governor acknowledged the pressures facing security agencies across the country, referencing recent challenges, such as the emergence of terror groups and pipeline sabotage. He assured the Commandant-General of his administration’s unwavering support.
“At the leadership level, we must ask you to do more with fewer resources, and we appreciate the work you’re doing to keep this country and our state safe. Wherever collaboration is needed, the Oyo State Government will always be ready to assist. We remain committed to ensuring our security personnel do not view their postings here as burdensome but as a place where their efforts are valued,” he added.
To mark the occasion, Makinde officially handed over two patrol vehicles to the NSCDC’s Oyo State Command.
In response, Audi expressed gratitude to the governor for fostering a strong relationship between the state government and the Corps. He commended Makinde’s developmental achievements and assured the governor of the Corps’ continued commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.
He also thanked the governor for the additional patrol vehicles, urging his officers to remain steadfast in their duties.
