The Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee has announced the retrieval of 30 government-owned vehicles from officials of the previous administration led by former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, the committee’s chairman, Kelly Okungbowa, revealed the progress made in recovering the vehicles.
He stated that the committee is prepared to extend its efforts nationwide to locate and reclaim all state-owned vehicles.
Okungbowa acknowledged the role of whistleblowers in providing crucial information that facilitated the recoveries.
Last Friday, the committee retrieved three vehicles, including a Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses. Additionally, four vehicles, including two Land Cruiser Jeeps and two Toyota Hilux vehicles, were recovered from the residence of a former senior government official.
One of these vehicles reportedly contained campaign materials. Another Hilux vehicle was also seized from a separate individual.
In total, 30 vehicles have been recovered since the committee began operations.
Okungbowa assured the public that more recoveries would be made before the two-week deadline for the committee to conclude its work.
He also called on the public to provide further information to support the effort, emphasizing that whistleblowers who assist in the recovery process will be rewarded.
