The Kwara State Government has praised the organizers of the Offa Preseason Football Tournament for their exemplary efforts in promoting sports and community engagement.
The tournament, which commenced today, November 24, 2024, at the Offa Township Stadium, has been described as a laudable initiative capable of fostering unity and nurturing football talent.
Representing Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq at the event, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, commended Offa for setting the pace in grassroots sports development.
“This is a remarkable initiative, bringing together teams from various locations, even beyond the state. Offa has shown leadership in promoting sports at the local government level, and I hope other LGAs follow this example,” Mogaji stated.
He also highlighted plans for collaboration between the state and Offa Local Government, announcing that the Kwara Sports Commission would establish a presence in the area to provide technical and developmental support.
The tournament’s ceremonial kickoff was performed by Alhaji Sulaiman Olatunji Laaro Omi Tuntun, Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, who applauded the organizers for their commitment to the development of football.
The competition features nine teams battling for supremacy from November 24 to 29, with the opening match between Offa FC and ABS Ilorin FC ending in a goalless draw.
Azeez Oyeyemi Olanrewaju Omoluabi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and CEO of Titan Hills, expressed optimism about the event’s success.
He added that CEO MM Oil and Gas Alhaji Muri Mustapha donated the trophy for Offa preseason tournament.
“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating our community, showcasing talent, and inspiring the next generation of football stars. We urge everyone to participate and help make this event a success,” Omoluabi said, extending an open invitation to sponsors and partners to support the initiative.
Alhaji Abdulrazaq Owolabi Wopa, Chairman of the Ilorin Emirate Football Council, also described the event as well-organized and urged the organizers to expand participation in future editions.
“This is a wonderful initiative, and the organizers have shown impressive skills. I encourage them to include more teams next time to broaden the scope and impact of the tournament,” he said.
Similarly, Abdullahi Yusuf, Chairman of AbraySports FC and NLO Kwara Chapter, expressed excitement about the tournament’s potential.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve seen such an event at this level. This is a fantastic start, and I believe it will inspire other communities to do the same,” Yusuf said.
