On Thursday, officials from the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce removed traders and confiscated goods that were illegally displayed at the Ikotun BRT bus station.
In a statement released on Friday, Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, provided details about the operation.
He explained that a variety of goods displayed unlawfully by vendors at the bus station and its vicinity were seized by the taskforce.
Wahab stated, “The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce conducted a compliance monitoring and enforcement operation at the Ikotun BRT bus station, which had been unlawfully occupied by street vendors for commercial activities.
“All items and merchandise displayed in this unauthorized area were confiscated, and the bus station, along with its surroundings, was cleared of the disturbances created by vendors who had turned the station and public roadway into a commercial space.”
Additionally, Wahab mentioned that nine individuals were arrested during the operation and will face legal charges in court.
