The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 51-year-old man, Sunday Abidoye, whose lifeless body was discovered in a room at Creestar Hotel, GRA, Sagamu, on Wednesday.
In a statement released on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, said the incident was reported by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Oluwole.
According to Odutola, detectives dispatched to the scene found the deceased’s body already placed inside a car outside the hotel, as his family was preparing to take it to the morgue.
The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota, Lagos State, informed police that Sunday had returned to Nigeria from the United States on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Godday explained that on Monday, he visited the hotel and knocked on Room 109, where his brother was staying, but received no response. He requested a spare key from the hotel manager, and upon entering, they discovered his brother’s lifeless body.
Odutola stated, “Photos were taken, and various drugs and traditional medicines were recovered from the room. The bed’s center was soaked with a liquid-like substance.”
A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, revealed that he had accompanied Sunday to purchase nine types of medication the previous day due to complaints of illness.
The body has been moved to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.
The police have yet to determine the cause of death, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
