Demola Olarewaju, the Special Assistant on Digital Media and Strategy to the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has commented on the recent changes to President Bola Tinubu’s media team.

Olarewaju implied that the presidency has downgraded Daniel Bwala amidst the restructuring. Confirming these changes, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that Sunday Dare—formerly the Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation—will now serve as Special Adviser for Media and Public Communications.

In contrast, Bwala, who was appointed last week as Special Adviser for Media and Public Communication, has now been reassigned to the role of Special Adviser for Policy Communication.

In his reaction, Olarewaju posted on X: “Egbon Onanuga didn’t wait until morning to drop that press release re-designating Bwala’s position. He announced it at 11:28 PM, fresh off the press.

“This indicates they consulted with Tinubu, made their case, and demoted Bwala before publicizing it.

“The underlying message to Bwala is clear: ‘You may hold a position, but we are truly in power.

“You might have connections with Tinubu, but our ties run deeper. We may allow you to be part of the team, but remember your status; we will quickly remind you if necessary.’

“This exemplifies what happens when one lacks self-awareness.”
