Academic activities are set to commence at the Osi (Kwara South) and Ilesha Baruba (Kwara North) campuses of the Kwara State University, Malete (KWASU), following the completion of new facilities in both locations.
The completion of these campuses marks another fulfilled promise by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who pledged not to abandon the projects initiated under his predecessor.
Dr. Mary Arinde, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, confirmed during an inspection visit to Osi that construction at the campus in Ekiti Local Government Area is 98% complete and ready for use as students resume for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Students from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts under the newly established Faculty of Environmental Sciences will begin lectures at the Osi campus on Monday, November 18, 2024. Meanwhile, students from the Faculty of Agriculture are scheduled to commence activities at the Ilesha Baruba campus in January 2025.
During the visit, Dr. Arinde expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by the contractor and consultant. She commended Governor AbdulRazaq’s unwavering commitment to the projects, despite initial challenges.
Accompanying her on the inspection were Prof. Binta Sulyman, Head of the Osi Campus, and Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. Prof. Sulyman noted that the Osi campus is fully prepared to welcome students of Fine and Applied Arts, who are already on-site alongside staff members.
The governor’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities in Kwara State has been widely praised, with the new campuses signaling a significant boost to higher education in the region.
