In 1999, Osun people voted Chief Bisi Akande of AD. No doubt, the administration recorded some landmark achievements, but it was marred with many errors and anti-people policies. Baba thought he was popular, unfortunately, Osun Voters sacked him from office in 2003.
Àṣọ̀lá Olokuku, overwhelmingly took over in 2003. His administration enjoyed people’s support, from far and near. Omo’ba Olagunsoye, a retired Army General, didn’t hide anything from the people, hence his monthly Open Forum program (Gbagede Oro) where people meet the Governor and some call from their homes to express their minds concerning his government.
In 2007, Osun people voted PDP again but was ‘salamically’ given to the AC, now APC. How do you explain votes from ten (10) local governments which were cancelled outrightly without calling for a rerun. This judgement informed the decision of the Senate to amend the law to allow governorship tribunal to get to the supreme court.
Fast track to 2018, Osun massively voted PDP, unfortunately the Pastor in the villa allegedly spoke to the Prof, Fuwape, and the election was remotely controlled, Oyetola was declared winner. We all knew how abysmally he performed for his four years as a governor. Osun residents could not wait for 2022 to come.
In 2022, he (Oyetola) was sent out from Bola Ige House, he couldn’t help himself, despite being the incumbent Governor at that time. Those who were his scribes couldn’t win souls of the Osun Voters to vote APC.
Today, Osun people are enjoying a new lease of life, workers are on a daily basis praying for this government, Pensioners are getting their benefits monthly without any excuse, unlike what played out when APC govt was there. Road projects littered every nook and cranny of the State. To get ordinary bricklayer or labour to work for you now, you must have informed them three days ahead, hence you may not see just one person to do your work. All of them are busy handling one government project or the other. And you expect those people to pray or wish APC to come back to power in Osun? Impossible.
No reasonable person who resides in Osun since 1999 till date will ever trust APC government again. APC style of governance derives joy in making life miserable for the citizens through their policies selfish and inhumane policies.
Above all, the crisis looming in that party may eventually consume it because those who are eyeing the governorship ticket of the party are many, most especially, those who officially joined them recently. They want to be governor too. Oyetola is still very much interested as we speak. One of the joiners will soon drag the party to court.
Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke remains the people’s governor who has not reneged on his promises to the people of Osun and he shall continue to do their bidding.
