President Bola Tinubu has urged all political stakeholders and the electorate in Ondo State to uphold peace and fulfill their civic duties without fear in the lead-up to the state’s upcoming governorship election on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President emphasized the importance of a peaceful and credible democratic process. He expressed confidence that the election would reflect the true will of the people and allow them to freely choose their leaders.
President Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its preparedness, particularly the timely distribution of sensitive materials to all 18 Local Government Areas of the state. He also praised the deployment of security personnel to ensure law and order, with reassurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff that security forces would act professionally in accordance with the Electoral Act.
The President reminded political candidates and stakeholders that the privilege to govern is bestowed by the people and must be respected. He emphasized that a free and fair election is in the best interest of all Nigerians and crucial for consolidating the country’s democratic achievements over the past 25 years.
Security personnel, including the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were present during the distribution of sensitive materials to ensure transparency and accountability.
