The Offa Students’ Union (OSU) National Headquarters launched its highly anticipated annual summer coaching programme yesterday, Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The event took place at the Oyeleke Hall within Offa Grammar School (OGS).
Under the dynamic leadership of Comrade Soliu Mubarak Olaiya, affectionately known as “Biggy,” the OSU aims to provide an enriching educational experience for students during the summer break. This year’s programme is themed “Focus on Helping Students Discover and Develop Their Skills and Talents.”
The summer school will run for *six weeks, from August 5th to September 14th, 2024.* Classes will be held daily from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.
Several prominent individuals, including: Honourable (Ogbeni) Seun Ogunniyi Adato, Kwara State House of Assembly representing the Ojomu/Balogun Constituency; The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Nigeria Police Force, Offa Divisional Headquarters; Director of State Security, representing the Offa Division; Comrade Bello Murthadhor (Ameer); and Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi (Sallah), immediate past President of the Offa Students Union NHQ.
The event also featured insightful talks from distinguished guest speakers: Mrs. Mujidat Bammeke-Oladipo: DSA (Dean of Student Affairs) at Lens Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State; Comrade Omuiyadun Hammed Ayodimeji (Yah-Omuz), Principal Personal Assistant to Senator Lola Ashiru; Comrade Lawal Nurudeen Akere among others.
Hon. Seun Ogunniyi Adato commended the OSU’s efforts in organizing the summer coaching programme.
He encouraged students to embrace the three Ds: Determination, Demonstration, and self-discipline. As a show of support, he donated N50,000 and promised mentorship opportunities.
Mrs. Mujidat Bammeke-Oladipo advised students to seek mentors who can guide them toward successful futures. She also urged teachers coordinating the summer coaching program to treat students with care, considering their diverse backgrounds.
Mr. Oche Baba, representing the Department of State Security (DSS), emphasized the importance of community security. He encouraged everyone to be vigilant and look out for one another, emphasizing that security begins with individual responsibility.
Yah Omuz echoed the importance of focus and the three Ds, while Nurudeen Akere urged teachers to identify students’ strengths and guide them toward relevant fields.
Alhaji Olatunji Sulaiman Omituntun, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Offa LG and CEO of Unique Kitchen, pledged ongoing support beyond donated exercise books.
In alignment with its mission, the Offa Students Union is actively seeking dedicated and passionate volunteers to teach during the summer school programme.
This initiative provides a unique chance for volunteers to make a significant impact on students’ academic, vocational, and personal growth.
