Hundreds of young protesters have brought the ancient city of Kano to a standstill, carrying placards with various inscriptions.
The protesters began their demonstration from within the city, congregating in neighborhoods such as Gama, Tudun Wada, Tudun Murtala, and others. They emerged in large numbers, with their bodies painted in different colors.
In areas like Hotoro, Maiduguri Road, and Ahmadu Bello Way, teenage boys were seen wielding dangerous weapons and shouting slogans like “We need urgent action from the government.”
Armed police officers and personnel from the NSCDC and DSS were present at strategic locations. On Ahmadu Bello Way, police officers swiftly intervened to confiscate weapons from the protesting youths.
However, our correspondent was turned back on Ahmadu Bello Way due to concerns about the protesters’ behavior becoming violent.
The majority of the protesters, mostly under the age of 20, were seen marching towards the Government House.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was quoted as saying that if the protests become necessary, he would welcome them peacefully at the Government House and personally receive their demands in writing. He promised to take these demands to the president.
