The Oye Divisional Police Headquarters, in conjunction with residents of Trinity Hostel along Egbe Road, Oye-Ekiti, has apprehended a notorious motorcycle thief, Bernard Shadrach. Shadrach was caught in the act while attempting to steal a motorcycle from a commercial rider.
According to DSP Abutu Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect and his accomplice specialized in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting motorcyclists within Oye-Ekiti. Their criminal activities came to an end on April 25, 2024, when they posed as passengers heading to Trinity Hostel along Egbe Road.
The suspect and his accomplice boarded the motorcycle and, at a certain point, demanded the motorcyclist to stop. They then attacked him with dry ground pepper and a hammer. Fortunately, the motorcyclist managed to subdue them with the help of passersby and apprehended one while the other fled.
Further investigation revealed that two commercial motorcycle riders, who had previously reported stolen motorcycles at the Oye Ekiti Police Headquarters, identified the suspect as one of the perpetrators involved in the thefts on April 2 and April 22, respectively.
The police PRO stated that the suspect confessed to the crimes and implicated his fleeing accomplice as the leader of their illicit motorcycle-snatching operation. He disclosed that they had relocated from Benin City, Edo State, and commenced their unlawful activities in November 2023.
