The Ikirun Development Association (IDA) recently convened its 2nd Stakeholders Forum at the Mini Campus of Minaret University, with indigenes from both home and the diaspora joining forces to redefine the future of their ancient town.
The gathering, organized by IDA, also known as the National Ikirun Progressive Union (NIPU), witnessed a diverse representation of stakeholders. Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi, the national President of IDA, opened the forum with a heartfelt address, expressing concern about the sluggish pace of Ikirun’s development. Olawuyi highlighted the town’s historical significance in Osun state and Yorubaland, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to restore its prominence.
Key achievements were spotlighted, including ongoing security initiatives, updates on the upcoming MINARET University academic activities at the mini campus, and a Water Treatment Plant project supported by a Japanese NGO.
Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi commended contributors to self-help projects, such as Alhaji Jimoh Rabiu of JRB Company, Prince Wale Olaoye of Halogen Group, and Retired DIG Adewale Lawal, among others. These contributors have played pivotal roles in road construction, street lighting installation, security enhancements, and communication infrastructure.
Goodwill messages echoed the commitment to Ikirun’s advancement, with notable figures like High Chief Kareem Adetoyese, Prof Yakubu Fabiyi, Hon. Tajudeen Adeyemi, Hon. Taofeek Oyekanmi, and various community leaders expressing readiness to elevate Ikirun to new heights.
The forum concluded with an announcement of the next Ikirun Stakeholders Forum scheduled for June next year. As Ikirun unites across political and religious lines, the resolve to prioritize peace, progress, and development stands as a beacon for the town’s rejuvenation.
