As part of this year’s Ijakadi Festival, the Ijakadi Marathon Race was declared open by the Chairman of the 2023 Ijakadi Committee. Asiwaju Tajudeen Owoyemi Chairman Avalon December 23, 2023, amidst an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. The marathon race started at the Offa Muslim Praying Ground (Yidi) and ended at the Olofa Palace.

 

Participants from all over the country had registered for the race, including seasoned athletes, amateurs, and fitness enthusiasts. As the marathon race came to a close, the first runner (male category) to cross the finish line, Abdulfatai Kazeem Olayinka, received some of #50,000; Jamiu Bashiru Taiye, who was the second runner, received #35, 000; and Adegboyega Japhet, the third runner, received #25, 000.

 

In the female category, Atoyebi Rukayat, the first runner, collected some of #30,000; second, Abdulgafar Faridah Morenikeji received #20,000; and third, Soliu Khairat received some of #10,000. The ODU national president, Alhaji Olaniyi Muideen Azeez Salako, gave all the participants #5,000 each to encourage them.

 

High Chiefs Ojomu and Asalofa Represented Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, at the occasion. The race provided a platform for the Offa people to showcase their hospitality, culture, and traditions to the world, as spectators lined the streets to cheer on the runners. ODU congratulates the winners, all the participants, and the organisers of the marathon.
