In a significant step towards fostering technological growth within the community, Engr. Abdulfatai Kolawole Yusuf, the President of Offa Engineers, announced the commencement of construction for the Offa Engineers Center.
The ambitious project, with an estimated cost of N100 million, is poised to become a hub for innovation and skills development.
“The Offa Engineers Center is projected to cost N100 million, and we have commenced construction. We are raising the money among ourselves to meet the target,” stated Engr. Yusuf.
The funds, derived from annual dues paid by the 270 members of Offa Engineers, are expected to be supplemented by contributions from corporate bodies, individuals, and non-engineers sympathetic to the cause.
The Offa Engineers Center is meticulously designed to house the offices of Offa Engineers and serve as a regional base for professional engineering bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), and Council for The Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). A dedicated section of the facility is earmarked for skills acquisition, focusing on the training and retraining of artisans.
In a collaborative effort to ensure the success and safety of the project, Offa Engineers are partnering with the Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA) and the Town Planning & Development Authority in Kwara state. This collaboration aims to prevent building collapses within the community by identifying and rectifying structures that fail integrity tests.
Engr. Yusuf emphasized the proactive approach, stating, “We consistently call on the government to allocate funds for this purpose. By addressing potential risks now, we aim to prevent building collapses that could pose threats to other structures and, more importantly, human lives.”
The Offa Engineers are not only focused on constructing a state-of-the-art facility but are also dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. They are conducting regular follow-ups on identified structures and actively engaging with the relevant authorities to uphold building standards in Kwara State.
The Offa Engineers Center stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to technological advancement and knowledge sharing. As the project progresses, Offa Engineers anticipate widespread support from Offa indigenes, engineers, corporate bodies, and notable personalities, believing that together, they can shape a future of innovation and progress for the entire region.
Recall that the Offa Engineering Centre foundation laying was done on October 2 by the national president of the Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU), Alhaji Engr. Olaniyi Muideen Azeez Salako. He received support from the Chairperson of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Chief Shade Omoniyi.
