An electrocuted body was discovered on the premises of Government College Secondary School Owerri, located along Owerri/Okigwe Road, Owerri.

The unfortunate incident occurred late on Thursday, and the body was found the next day, Wednesday, beside the first transformer inside the school.

A staff member of the school, who wished not to be mentioned, recounted that on Thursday night, there was a heavy lightning strike at the transformer, leading everyone to believe that the transformer had blown.

This prompted the hostel residents and some neighbours to inspect the situation. To their surprise, they found a lifeless body lying inside the transformer.

Immediately, the school authorities reported the incident to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Police. The Police, upon arrival, took the lifeless body to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri.

The Imo State Police Command in Owerri, through the Command Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune in Owerri on Friday.

He stated that the lifeless body had been evacuated to the mortuary. Okoye clarified that the man was electrocuted, and the incident occurred on Wednesday at one of the transformers located inside the school premises.

He added that the Police Command has initiated an investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased and his origin, as well as to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
