The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter in Collaboration with Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Edo State and Ivieva Development Foundations, organised free breast and Cervical cancer screening outreach for women to enable early detection
The event featured Health talk, Breast examination, Mammography Cervical examination and counseling among others.
Dr. Toyin Fabooya, Chief Medical Officer, Health Service Department, University of Benin while addressing participant on Cervical cancer advised women to go for PAP smear once in a year for early detection.
Fabooya said advanced Cervical cancer may cause bleeding or discharge that is not normal and these could include bleeding after sex.
Dr. Fabooya said Human Papillomavirus, HPV, is the main cause of Cervical cancer and can be passed from one person to another during sex.
Some of the participants commended the association for the initiative and pleaded for more Government supports to further help to enlighten more citizens in the state.
Women are therefore, advised to go for regular health checkups in order to avoid cancer.
