The Student Union Government (SUG) Week of Harvard Polytechnic Ilorin come to a satisfying end on Thursday, 6th July, 2023.
The Week was a four-day programme which included different activities such as rally, symposium, old school and the grand finale.
The Rector of Harvard Polytechnic Ilorin, Obasanjo Ajibade advised the students to be focused as well as to uphold the ethics and moral standards of the institution so as to remain good ambassadors of the institution.
He also urged them to place emphasis on humility and services as they have a binding responsibility to themselves, their parents, the polytechnic, and Nigeria at large.
“It is also imperative to emphasise that as students of Harvard Polytechnic Ilorin, you are bounded by obligations and morals and essentially your loyalty to your lecturers, and the Nigerian society, and the way you conduct yourselves.
“Therefore, go out there, be good ambassadors, and be good representatives of the polytechnic.
“Be also reminded that you are to be compliance with the school requirements, all those in authority and to be of good conduct throughout your stay in this Polytechnic. Be warned that a breach of the oath will definitely attract appropriate sanctions.
“Therefore, I admonish you to steer clear of cultism, hooliganism and other forms of social menace that may impugn the integrity of this young, promising institution,” he said.
Earlier during his opening speech, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Ake Joseph Olusiji, said the school encompasses academic with extra curricular activities.
“Today, we gather here to celebrate not only the successful completion of another academic year but also to recognize the incredible achievements of our students in both academics and sports. This occasion allows us to reflect upon the dedication, hard work, and resilience that has brought us all together in this prestigious institution.
“As the Registrar of Harvard Polytechnic, it is my great honour and privilege to address you all on this momentous day. The conclusion of this session marks a significant milestone in the lives of our students, and I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of you for your outstanding accomplishments.
“Throughout this academic year, our students have exemplified the true spirit of intellectual curiosity and pursuit of knowledge. You have challenged yourselves to reach new heights of academic excellence, engaging in rigorous coursework, conducting groundbreaking research, and embracing innovation. Your thirst for knowledge and commitment to intellectual growth have been truly awe-inspiring.
“But our students’ achievements extend far beyond the confines of the lectureroom. The world of sports has witnessed the remarkable talents and achievements of our athletes, who have showcased their strength, agility, and unwavering determination. You have demonstrated the importance of discipline, teamwork, and resilience, not only as athletes but as ambassadors of our institution.
“Today, we gather here to recognize and honor those students who have excelled both academically and athletically. These awards-represent the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. They symbolize your ability to balance academic rigor with the pursuit of athletic excellence, and they serve as a testament to your unwavering commitment to personal growth and self-improvement.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the faculty members and support staff who have tirelessly guided and nurtured our students throughout their journey at Harvard Polytechnic. Your dedication to teaching, mentoring, and fostering an environment of intellectual and athletic growth is truly commendable.
“In closing, let us celebrate this day as a testament to our collective achievements. May this ceremony serve as a reminder of the incredible potential within each and every one of us and inspire us to continue pushing the boundaries of knowledge and human capability. Congratulations once again, and thank you for being a part of the Harvard Polytechnic community. I wish you all the very best in your endeavours.”
Certificates of Office were presented to members of Students Union Government (SUG), on the fore were Comrade Babatunde Oluwafemi Samuel (President), Sulaiman Zakariyahu (General Secretary), Rt Honourable Awodoye Samson (Provost) and Rt Honourable Abdullahi Kolawole Ayedero (Speaker).
The following were also awarded best teams in different sports: Dragon Club (Snooker), Eagles Club (Table Tennis), Jordan Club (Chess Club), Tiger Club (Football), Oscar Club (Handball), Puma Club (Volleyball) and Lion Club (Basketball).
Dignitaries at the programme were Professor Ameen Ahmed Oloduowo (former HOD of Computer Science, University of Ilorin), Professor Risikat Nike Ahmed (former HOD of Microbiology Department, and current Deputy Director of Entrepreneurship Center, University of Ilorin), Mrs. Moradeyo Abidoye former SA to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Mr. Nurudeen Ali, Branch Manager of Federal Mortgage Bank, Ilorin among other personalities.
The event was also witnessed by all departmental HODs and principal officers of the Polytechnic.
Other activities featured were Man O War Parade, Eating Competition and Beauty Pageant. Odunkanmi Oluwatosin Halleluyah of Business Administration and Management Department was crowned Mr. Harvard while Miss Awoyemi Damilola Ibukunoluwa was crowned Miss Harvard.
